Mullus barbatus

Mullus barbatus, the red mullet, is a species of goatfish in the family Mullidae, found in the Mediterranean Sea, the Sea of Marmara, the Black Sea and the eastern North Atlantic Ocean, where its range extends from Scandinavia to Senegal, including the Canary Islands, Azores and Madeira. It reaches a standard length of up to 30 centimeters, though it is typically around 15 centimeters, with a laterally compressed, rose-pink body without distinctive fin markings, a short steep snout, and a pair of moderately long barbels on the chin. Its first dorsal fin carries 8 spines and its second dorsal fin 1 spine and 8 soft rays; its upper jaw is toothless, with teeth instead on the lower jaw and roof of the mouth. The IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
