The New Zealand king shag, also known as the rough-faced shag, king shag or kawau pateketeke, is a rare bird endemic to New Zealand. Taxonomic authorities disagree on its genus placement: the International Ornithologists' Union and others place it in Leucocarbo, while other authorities place it in Phalacrocorax.
