Oak Fern, also called western oakfern, common oak fern or northern oak fern, is a fern species in the family Cystopteridaceae with an extensive range spanning Canada, the United States, Greenland, China, Japan, Korea, Russia and most of Europe. Like other ferns it reproduces by spores rather than seeds, alternating between a free-living sporophyte phase and a free-living gametophyte phase in its life cycle.
