Octopus cyanea, also known as the big blue octopus or day octopus, is a species in the family Octopodidae found across the Pacific and Indian Oceans from Hawaii to the eastern coast of Africa. It grows to about sixteen centimeters in mantle length with arms reaching at least eighty centimeters, and was first described by the British zoologist John Edward Gray in 1849 from a type specimen collected off Australia.
