The ogre-faced spider, genus Deinopis, is a group of nocturnal net-casting spiders found in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide, named for its two enormous forward-facing eyes that give it the keenest night vision known among spiders. Rather than spinning a fixed web to trap prey, it weaves a small rectangular net held between its front legs and hangs motionless until prey passes below, then lunges downward and throws the net over its target, a hunting method unlike that of nearly any other spider.
