Opossum Shrimp (Mysida)

Opossum Shrimp, formally the order Mysida, are small shrimp-like crustaceans in the malacostracan superorder Peracarida. Their common name comes from the brood pouch, or marsupium, in which females rear their young rather than releasing free-swimming larvae; a mysid's head bears a pair of stalked eyes and two pairs of antennae, its thorax has eight segments each with branching limbs concealed beneath a protective carapace, and its abdomen has six segments with further small limbs.
