The orange clownfish (Amphiprion percula) is a small anemonefish native to shallow coral reefs of the western Pacific and eastern Indian Ocean, found near northwest Australia, southeast Asia, and Japan. It grows to about 11 centimeters, though most individuals average around 8 centimeters, and displays a bright orange body marked by three white bands edged in black, one behind the eye, one at midbody, and one near the tail. Like other anemonefish, it lives in a symbiotic partnership with sea anemones, especially the magnificent sea anemone and the giant carpet anemone, sheltering among their tentacles while removing parasites and improving water circulation for its host. The species is one of the most familiar aquarium fish in the trade, though it is considered difficult to keep, and its wild collection is regulated on the Great Barrier Reef.
