Orange-Peel Doris

The orange-peel doris, Acanthodoris lutea, is a nudibranch sea slug of the family Acanthodorididae described by MacFarland in 1925, found along the Pacific coast of North America from Cape Arago, Oregon to northern Baja California, Mexico. It grows to about 30 millimeters and is covered in a bright orange papillated dorsum flecked with yellow specks, a warning coloration to predators, and when handled it often gives off a smell of sandalwood. Its coloration can vary from white to brown depending on habitat and diet.
