Pacific Giant Salamander

The Pacific giant salamander is among the largest terrestrial salamanders in North America, found in cool, moist forests of the Pacific Northwest. Classifications differ on its family, placing it either in its own family, Dicamptodontidae, or within Ambystomatidae. Some larvae never fully transform and instead grow into large, gilled, aquatic adults, and the species is one of the few salamanders known to produce an audible vocalization when disturbed.
