Plantago maritima

Plantago maritima, commonly called sea plantain, seaside plantain or goose tongue, is a species of flowering plant in the plantain family Plantaginaceae. It is a herbaceous perennial forming a dense rosette of thick, fleshy, linear leaves 2 to 22 centimeters long and under 1 centimeter wide, usually with three to five veins, and bears small greenish brown flowers with brown stamens in compact spikes. It has a subcosmopolitan range across temperate and Arctic regions, native to most of Europe, northwest Africa, northern and central Asia, northern North America and southern South America, most often in strictly coastal habitats on sandy soils, though it also grows in alpine settings near mountain streams.
