The rabbits foot fern is an epiphytic fern native to the Fiji Islands, named for its thick, furry rhizomes that creep visibly across the surface of its growing medium or pot, resembling small furred paws. Its finely divided, lacy fronds arch outward from these crawling rhizomes, giving the plant a soft, feathery appearance. In the wild it grows attached to trees and rocks in humid forest, and it is now also a popular houseplant and hanging-basket subject prized for its unusual furry rootstock.
