Cycas revoluta, known as sago cycad, sago palm, king sago or Japanese sago palm, is a species of gymnosperm in the family Cycadaceae, native to southern Japan including the Ryukyu Islands. It is one of several species used for the production of sago, as well as grown as an ornamental plant, and can be distinguished by a thick coat of fibers on its trunk; despite its name it is not a true palm, the only similarity being that the two look alike and both produce seeds.
