Tamarix, commonly known as saltcedar or tamarisk, is a genus of some fifty to sixty species of flowering plants native to the drier regions of Eurasia and Africa, with a generic name that may derive from the Tamaris River in what was once Roman Hispania Tarraconensis, in present-day Spain.
