Shaggy Mane

Coprinus comatus, commonly known as the shaggy ink cap, lawyer's wig or shaggy mane, is a species of fungus whose young fruit bodies first appear as white cylinders emerging from the ground before the bell-shaped cap opens out. The white cap is covered with scales, the source of its common names, and the gills beneath it change from white to pink to black as the fungus matures. The mushroom is unusual in that it will turn black and dissolve itself within hours of being picked or of depositing its spores.
