The shocking pink dragon millipede, Desmoxytes purpurosea, is a spiny millipede formally described by Enghoff, Sutcharit, and Panha in 2007 from the Hup Pa Tat limestone cavern in Uthai Thani Province, Thailand. Adults reach about three centimeters, among the largest in their genus, and are colored a vivid pink that serves as an aposematic warning of their toxicity, produced by hydrogen cyanide released from specialized glands with an almond-like smell. The species lives openly on leaf litter, with large populations appearing after rain.
