The millipedes: arthropods with an elongated, cylindrical body of many segments, each of the trunk segments (except the first few) bearing two pairs of legs, the diagnostic trait that separates the class from the superficially similar centipedes. Diplopoda are almost entirely slow-moving detritivores, feeding on decaying plant matter.
