The southern giant horsetail, Equisetum giganteum, is a species of horsetail in the family Equisetaceae, a lineage of fern allies with a fossil record stretching back hundreds of millions of years, found across South and Central America from central Chile east to Brazil and north to southern Mexico. As its common name suggests, it grows notably larger than most other living horsetail species.
