The southern maidenhair fern, Adiantum capillus-veneris, also called Venus hair fern, is a species of fern in the family Pteridaceae with a subcosmopolitan distribution found on every inhabited continent, typically growing on damp, shaded limestone rock and near waterfalls and springs. Its fine, dark, wiry stalks and delicate, fan-shaped leaflets have made it a popular ornamental fern grown both outdoors in mild climates and as a houseplant.
