Sphagnum palustre, also called prairie sphagnum or blunt-leaved bogmoss, is a species of peat moss in the genus Sphagnum and family Sphagnaceae. Like other mosses of its type it can soak up water to as much as thirty times its own dry weight, thanks to elastic spiral fibers in its structure. It is a fairly common species found almost worldwide, growing mainly in wet forests and, compared to other members of its genus, only rarely in true moors.
