Schizophyllum commune is a species of fungus in the genus Schizophyllum, whose mushroom resembles undulating waves of tightly packed coral or a loose Chinese fan. Its gills, which vary in color from creamy yellow to pale white and give the species its common name split-gill, sit beneath a cap one to four centimeters wide with a dense yet spongy texture.
