The spotted seal, also called the larga or largha seal, is an earless seal that inhabits ice floes and waters of the North Pacific, primarily along the continental shelf of the Beaufort, Chukchi, Bering and Okhotsk Seas, ranging south to the northern Yellow Sea and western Sea of Japan and into Alaskan waters during the ice-free summer and autumn. It is closely related to, and often mingles with, the harbor seal in areas where their ranges overlap, and the two are sometimes mistaken for one another.
