Trapdoor spider is a common name for various spiders from several different groups that create burrows with a silk-hinged trapdoor to help them ambush prey. These arachnids belong to multiple families within the infraorder Mygalomorphae, as well as one family in the suborder Mesothelae, and are found widely across South America, Australia, the United States, Japan and other tropical and subtropical regions.
