Trametes versicolor, also known as Coriolus versicolor and Polyporus versicolor, is a common polypore mushroom found throughout the world, most commonly called turkey tail because its shape resembles that of a wild turkey's tail feathers. An extract of the fungus called polysaccharide-K is approved in Japan as an adjuvant cancer therapy, though it is not approved for that or any clinical use in the United States, and extracts of turkey tail or the mushroom itself are commonly marketed as a dietary supplement, though quality can vary because of inconsistent processing and labeling.
