Vaucheria is a genus of yellow-green algae known as water felt, found forming mat-like growths in terrestrial or freshwater environments, and one of only two genera in the family Vaucheriaceae. Its filaments grow from their tips and contain a single large central vacuole with chloroplasts lining the cell periphery and nuclei clustered near the center, and the genus, which includes over 100 recognized species, is named after Swiss pastor and botanist Jean Pierre Etienne Vaucher.
