Western yellow wagtail

The western yellow wagtail (Motacilla flava) is a small passerine bird in the wagtail family Motacillidae, which also includes the pipits and longclaws, breeding across much of temperate Europe and Asia. Most populations migrate south to tropical Africa and southern Asia for winter, though the Egyptian population is resident year-round, and the species measures 15 to 16 centimeters, the shortest-tailed European wagtail, with olive upperparts and yellow underparts in breeding males. It is insectivorous, favors open country near water such as wet meadows, nests in tussocks with clutches of four to eight eggs, and is assessed as Least Concern.
