Whitespotted bamboo shark

The whitespotted bamboo shark, scientific name Chiloscyllium plagiosum, is a small carpet shark in the family Hemiscylliidae, found on coral reefs of the Pacific Ocean from Japan to India and common in the coastal waters of Indonesia and its surrounding seas; it is also harvested for food in Madagascar and Taiwan. It reaches about 93 centimeters long and shows a distinctive pattern of purple and pink spots with dark bands on a white body, along with dorsal fins that have convex rear margins and small teeth, 26 to 35 on the upper jaw and 21 to 32 on the lower. A bottom-dwelling, mostly nocturnal species, it rests on the seafloor propped on its bent pectoral fins and is harmless to humans, which along with its coloration makes it a species sometimes kept in large home aquariums.
