Wolf Spider

Wolf spiders are members of the family Lycosidae, named for their robust build, agile hunting and excellent eyesight. They mostly live and hunt alone rather than spinning webs, with some pouncing on prey they encounter or chasing it over short distances and others waiting near a burrow entrance for prey to pass. They resemble nursery web spiders but can be told apart by how they carry their egg sacs, attached to the spinnerets rather than carried in the chelicerae and pedipalps, and by having two notably large, prominent eyes among their eight, where a nursery web spider's eyes are all roughly the same size.
