Zebra nerite snail, Vittina natalensis, formerly classified in the genus Neritina, is a small freshwater snail with an operculum, an aquatic gastropod mollusk of the family Neritidae, native to fresh and brackish waters of eastern and southern Africa. Also known as the spotted nerite or red spotted snail, it must return to brackish water to reproduce even though it lives most of its life in fresh water, and it has become a popular aquarium snail valued for its algae-eating habits and patterned shell.
