Alphaproteobacteria, also called alpha-proteobacteria or, in older literature, alpha-purple bacteria, is a class of bacteria within the phylum Pseudomonadota. Its members are genetically related but ecologically and physiologically diverse, and most are Gram-negative, though some parasitic members show variable gram staining.
