Anthocerotophyta, commonly called hornworts, is a division of small, non vascular land plants named for their distinctive horn shaped spore capsules, which grow continuously from the base and are among the longest lived spore structures of any bryophyte grade plant. Hornworts are found in moist soil and rock surfaces worldwide, and many species host colonies of nitrogen fixing cyanobacteria within internal cavities, a symbiotic relationship uncommon among land plants of any group.
