Aegithalidae is a family of small passerine birds comprising the bushtits and long-tailed tits, 13 species across three genera, Aegithalos, Psaltriparus and Leptopoecile. Nearly all members live in Eurasia, with the American bushtit as the one exception in western North America, while the long-tailed tit has the widest range of any member, occurring across Eurasia from Britain to Japan. These are extremely small birds, 9 to 14 centimeters long and only 4.5 to 9 grams in weight, typically dull grey or brown though some show white or pinkish markings, and long-tailed relative to their compact bodies. They move almost constantly while foraging for insects in shrubs and trees, form flocks of up to 50 individuals outside the breeding season, and several species practice cooperative breeding with helpers at the nest.
