Gadidae

Gadidae is a family of marine fish in the order Gadiformes, known as the cods, codfishes or true cods, and includes several commercially important species such as the cod, haddock, whiting and pollock. Most species inhabit temperate Northern Hemisphere waters, though some extend into subtropical and Arctic regions and one species occurs in the Southern Hemisphere; they are distinguished by three dorsal fins, two anal fins and chin barbels used to forage on the seafloor, feeding carnivorously on smaller fish and crustaceans.
