Maluridae

Maluridae is a family of small, insectivorous passerine birds known as the Australasian wrens, comprising 33 species in six genera: sixteen fairywrens, three emu-wrens, and thirteen grasswrens. The family is endemic to Australia and New Guinea, where its members inhabit environments ranging from rainforest to desert and forage in underbrush for insects. Many species display brilliant coloration, especially the males, and most are socially monogamous while genetically promiscuous, often building domed nests in dense vegetation, with grown young from earlier broods sometimes helping raise later ones. Despite the common name, Australasian wrens are not closely related to the true wrens; their resemblance to that group is the result of convergent evolution rather than shared ancestry.
