Myocastoridae is the traditional family placement for the nutria or coypu, genus Myocastor, a large semiaquatic rodent native to South America and now introduced widely elsewhere as an invasive species. Some modern classifications place the genus within the related family Echimyidae instead, and the correct family placement remains debated among taxonomists.
