Mystacinidae, the New Zealand short-tailed bats, is a family of bats endemic to New Zealand, where its members represent one of very few native land mammal lineages. They are unusually terrestrial for bats, foraging on the ground as well as in flight, folding their wings away and using strong limbs to scramble and burrow in search of insects, other invertebrates, fruit, nectar and pollen. The family has been reduced by introduced predators, and at least one of its recognized species is now considered extinct.
