Nectariniidae

Sunbirds and spiderhunters, family Nectariniidae, are small, slender, nectar-feeding passerine birds of the Old World tropics, many brightly colored with iridescent feathers, especially in males. The family contains 152 species in 16 genera, ranging through most of Africa to the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia and southern China, to Indonesia, New Guinea and northern Australia. As nectar feeders they act as important pollinators across their range, including of iconic African plants such as proteas, aloes and Strelitzia.
