Nycteridae

Nycteridae, the slit-faced or hollow-faced bats, is a family with a single genus, Nycteris, comprising roughly 13 to 16 recognized species across the Afrotropics and neighboring regions, including Madagascar, East Malaysia and Indonesia. They are small bats, 4 to 8 centimeters long, grey, brown or reddish in color, identified by a longitudinal facial groove running from between the eyes to the nostrils that likely assists echolocation, large ears, a nose-leaf, and an unusual T-shaped cartilage tail tip found in no other mammal.
