Orycteropodidae

Orycteropodidae is a family of afrotherian mammals in the order Tubulidentata, a name meaning tube-toothed for the animals distinctive rootless teeth made of tubules of dentine rather than enamel. The only species surviving today is the aardvark, Orycteropus afer, despite numerous extinct relatives known from the fossil record. Aardvarks have twenty to twenty-two continuously growing teeth, shed their milk teeth before birth, and are myrmecophagous, feeding almost exclusively on termites and ants located mainly by smell during nocturnal foraging.
