Paradisaeidae

Paradisaeidae is the birds-of-paradise family, order Passeriformes, comprising 44 species in 17 genera found mainly in New Guinea as well as eastern Australia and the Maluku Islands. The family is confined to dense rainforest habitats and feeds mostly on fruit with some arthropods. Males of most species are renowned for elaborate plumage, with very long ornamental feathers extending from the beak, wings, tail or head, while females are typically drab for camouflage; young males resemble females, and sexual maturity can take up to seven years to reach full adult plumage. Breeding systems range from monogamy to lek-based polygamy.
