Pedetidae is the family of springhares, large hopping rodents of Africa represented today by two living species in the single genus Pedetes, the South African springhare and the East African springhare, found through Southern Africa and around Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The family belongs to the suborder Anomaluromorpha, together with the anomalures, and its fossil record reaches back to the Early Miocene, with fossil relatives once found as far north as Turkey; four extinct genera are also recognized.
