Ranidae, sometimes called true frogs, is a family of frogs with the widest distribution of any frog family, found on all continents except Antarctica across North America, northern South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. True frogs are typically smooth and moist skinned, with large powerful legs and extensively webbed feet, and vary greatly in size; most species are aquatic or live near water, laying eggs in water and passing through a tadpole stage.
