Trichechidae is a family within order Sirenia that includes all living manatees together with several extinct genera. Its single living genus, Trichechus, comprises three extant species: the Amazonian manatee, Trichechus inunguis; the West Indian manatee, Trichechus manatus; and the African manatee, Trichechus senegalensis. Several extinct genera are also known, including Anomotherium, Miosiren, Potamosiren and Ribodon.
