Trochilidae

Trochilidae is the hummingbird family, native to the Americas and ranging from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, most heavily concentrated in Central and South America and the Andes. It contains roughly 375 species across 113 genera, usually placed in the order Apodiformes though some taxonomists separate hummingbirds into their own order, Trochiliformes. Hummingbirds are the smallest mature birds, measuring 7.5 to 13 centimeters long, with characteristic long narrow beaks and a rapid wing beat that produces their namesake humming sound, and males often display iridescent blue, green and purple plumage.
