Vombatidae is the wombat family, short-legged, muscular, quadrupedal marsupials in the order Diprotodontia native to Australia. The family contains two living genera, Vombatus and Lasiorhinus, and three living species, the common wombat and the northern and southern hairy-nosed wombats. Wombats measure about one meter in length, with small stubby tails, and weigh between twenty and thirty five kilograms; they live in forested, mountainous, and heathland areas of southern and eastern Australia, including Tasmania, plus one small isolated population in central Queensland.
