Arctonyx

Arctonyx is a genus of mustelid in the subfamily Melinae, alongside the true badgers of genus Meles, containing three species of hog badger. Long considered a single species, the genus was split in a 2008 study into the northern hog badger (Arctonyx albogularis) of South and East Asia, the greater hog badger (Arctonyx collaris) of Southeast Asia, and the Sumatran hog badger (Arctonyx hoevenii), endemic to Sumatra, Indonesia; the American Society of Mammalogists has since endorsed this three species arrangement. The greater hog badger is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN, while the northern and Sumatran hog badgers are both assessed as least concern.
