Atelocynus

Atelocynus is a monotypic genus of canid, family Canidae, containing the single species Atelocynus microtis, the short-eared dog, endemic to the Amazon rainforest basin of Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. It has short slender limbs, small rounded ears, a fox-like muzzle and a bushy tail, with partly webbed paws adapted to a partly aquatic habitat; its closest living relative is thought to be the crab-eating fox, genus Cerdocyon. An elusive, solitary animal that avoids human contact, it is listed as near threatened by the IUCN, with habitat loss from deforestation and disease spread from feral dogs among its main threats.
