Bdeogale

Bdeogale is a genus of mongoose in the family Herpestidae, proposed by Wilhelm Peters in 1850 from a specimen collected in Mozambique. It contains four species found across East Africa, the bushy-tailed mongoose, black-footed mongoose, Jackson's mongoose and Sokoke dog mongoose, ranging from Least Concern to Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Members of the genus have compact paws with four symmetrical toes, round ears and a blunt muzzle with a broad, bare rhinarium, and are primarily terrestrial and omnivorous, foraging in dense vegetation.
