Bombus is the genus of bumblebees, comprising over 250 species and subspecies within the bee family Apidae, in the tribe Bombini, the only extant genus in that tribe. The genus has been divided into as many as 49 subgenera, a taxonomic complexity some researchers have criticized. Cuckoo bumblebees, once classified separately as the genus Psithyrus, are now considered part of Bombus.
