Callicebus

Callicebus is a genus of New World monkey known as titi monkeys, in the subfamily Callicebinae of the family Pitheciidae, order Primates, named by Thomas in 1903. Titi monkeys were historically classified in a single genus, but a taxonomic revision split them into three genera within Callicebinae: Callicebus, now restricted to the Atlantic Forest species of the personatus group, Cheracebus for the widow titis, and Plecturocebus for the Amazonian and Chaco titis. The genus contains five species, all native to the Atlantic Forest region and parts of Brazil in South America. In 2014 researchers observed an undescribed orange-colored Callicebus individual in Peru that may represent either a color variant or a new species.
