Callosciurus

Callosciurus, sometimes called the beautiful squirrels, is a genus of about fifteen species and more than sixty subspecies native mainly to Southeast Asia, with some populations reaching Nepal, northeastern India, Bangladesh, and southern China, and several species established on islands elsewhere. Members range from 13 to 27 centimeters in body length with tails of similar length, typically olive-brown to grey but sometimes brightly marked, as in Pallas's squirrel with its olive-grey back and bright red belly or Prevost's squirrel with its black back, white sides, and reddish-brown underside; they live mainly in tropical rainforest, though some adapt to parks and gardens, build nests of plant material, bear one to five young per litter, and eat nuts, fruit, seeds, insects, and bird eggs.
